International News
Proa the Spanish Department On Friday, October 10, 1986, a severe
earthquake rocked San Salvador, capital of the small Central American
republic of El Salvador. The quake occurred at about noon and, according
to preliminary reports, destroyed about 90 percent of the city.
Herbert Cisneros, minister responsible for El Salvador, Honduras and
Guatemala, who also happens ·to reside in San Salvador, reports that none
· of our members was injured personally apart from a few bruises and
scratches. However, the homes of six members were totally destroyed. It
is truly miraculous that more members were not affected when the magnitude
of the earthquake is considered.
