In March we ran an article entitled
"A People Who 'Can't A./Jord' To
Tithe," by Garner Ted
tf
rmstrong. 1n
this issue we are devoting the "What
Our Readers Say" section to /etters
from members of the Worldwide
Church of God who have commented
on their personal experiences with
tithing. We thought you'd find their
comments interesting and encour–
aging- perhaps even inspiring! Ifyou
have an interesling story to te// con–
cerning your experience with tithing,
we'd be glad to hearfrom you.
Daughter Flnds Money
We have just completed our sixth yea r
as membcrs of God's Church. We bave
received many blessings since we
started to tithe, but one is vcry special
and we'd like to tell you about it.
Our daughter was returning from a
friend's house when she spotted a roll of
money on the sidewalk. When she
counted it there were eleven $100 bilis.
We called the police, who took the money
and kept it for three months. At the end of
this time they notified us that no one had
claimed
it,
so we could keep it.

decided to
send in a
$50
special offering. A few
weeks later one of our local banks be–
gan advertising free promotional gifts
and a chance to win a $25 gift certificate
for opening a new savings account. Be–
cause of my very thrifty nature,
J
took
advantage of this opportunity and cbose
a pocket calculator as my gift. I also
reluctantly
(1
can count previous win–
nings on one finger) took the time to 611
out one of their coupons for the daily
drawing. You should have seen my sur–
prise when
1
opened a letter from the
bank the following week informing me
that
1
was a $25 winner! But don't go
away yet; the story is only half over.
Upon picking up my prize,
1
\ess reluc–
tantly deposited another coupon on be–
half of my little boy. I've aiready tipped
you off as to the outcome. Anotber $25
winner! Who said lightning doesn't
strike twice in the same place? Only a
few short weeks after sending an offer–
ing for the Work, our great God re–
turned my
$50
to me. To be completely
candjd, the
$50
offering at the time
wasn't a real hardship. lf it were, my
28
hunch is that God would have returned
my
$50
with interest.

Nonfinancial Blesslngs
The blessings we received because of
tithing were not necessarily financia!.
Sometimes it is necessary to sacrifice the
material to obey God's Word. God does
blcss the tithe-payer.

Widow Protec ted from Debt
Death overtook my husband after 48
days in the surgical intensive-care unit,
leaving me totally disabled and with
only Social Security for income. After
the funeral the bilis started coming in,
amounting to over $35,000. Under our
health-insurance plan. which we had
through my husband's work for the past
17 years,
1
would have been in debt for
20 percent of the $35,000. But just 117
days before. the board of directors had
changed the insurance coverage. so I
paid only a standard deductiblc of $295.
The insurancc paid everything over
that, up to one million dollars.

God worked this miracle after 17 years
to protect me, just as He has always
done in all my necessities of life.

lnstant Return
When I started to tithe in earnest. some–
thing happened that 1 wiU never forget.
1
sent in my first tübe before anything
was taken out. The following Sunday
night
1
found $1000 lying where hun–
dreds of people could see it. but it was
only to be seen by me. If you tithe you
will be blessed.

Embarrassed by So Much
Since

starled 10 1ithe about three years
ago, my salary has jumped almost 63
percent. In one of lhose years
1

a bonus amounting to over 160 percent
of my base salary at that time. My life–
style has improved to tbe extenl lhat
now
J

degree

feel somewhat embarrassed in
front of other people, including those in
the Church, because of a multitude of
physical possessions.

" Terrible" AHitude Changes
As soon as we learned we should tithe.
1
asked God to make sure He fed my
family, as
1
was giving up "all this
money." My attitude was terrible
toward tithing. But now. ten years later.
we have a new car, money in the bank,
both our daughtcrs married in the
Church, my mother attending for the
very first time last week. bundreds of
friends. happiness beyond words, faith
beyond words. etc.. etc.

Severa! years ago.
1
received an income–
tax rebate for $50. Knowing had 1 not
received it
1
would get along without it.
1
decided to send it to Pasadena. Then,
human nature being what it is, l thought
why not wait and put it in a later offer–
ing? Then another thought occurred:
Why wait? The money is needed now.
So before
1
could change my mind,
r
endorsed the check and mailed it. Sev–

1
received a cal! from
the Social Security office. telling me to
come down. They said they had sorne
good news for me.
1
wasted no time
getting there. and they gave me a check
for over $600. After tithing on this, my

Pay Raise Follows Tithe
When
J
fi.rst heard whal the Bible said
and contrasted it with what
1
had been
taught all my life,
1
was shocked.
1
lcarned abou1 tithing and. after many
months of consideration, studying and
reading,
1
decided to tithe. On payday
during my lunch hour.
1
cashed my pay–
check and went directly to the post of–
fice and made a money order for ten
percent of my wages. When
1
got back
to work after lunch. the boss called me
into his office and complimented me on
the work
1
was doing and gave me a
raise for more than lhe ten percent 1
had just sent, and also told me that
1
did
not have to come in for work on Satur–
days anymore.
1
was very. very sur–
prised to say the least.
