not have billions upon billions of
dollars for such purposes. Mueh of
this restoration is being done by vol–
un leer labor. It made me think of
the early days in bu ilding Ambassa–
dor College. l n those day . as we
purchascd gradually more and more
property. we used old. dilapidatcd
frame hou es for many purposes:
we u ed vo luntcer student labor; we
im provised as was neccssa ry to keep
building and growing. That is the
way the lsrac lis are building up
their country.
First the mayor rook us through
thc Citadel. an agglomeratio n of o ld
buildings located to thc right of
Jaffa Gate a lo ng the wcstern wall of
the Old City. Sorne of the stones in
its base date back to the sccond cen–
tury B.C. The tower at the far end of
the Citadel has been known as th e
Tower of David since Byzan tine
times - but neither the Citadel nor
Tower of David
ha.~
any con–
ncction with the ancient King
David. The C itadel has many walls
and many rooms. and it is being
restored into a beautiful and mod–
ero conditi on.
From the Citadel we were taken
over to the old Jewish Quarter of
the old walled city. He re were a
e l uster of low. very old domed
houses which were very unimpres–

from the outside. But upon en–
tering. we were struck by the

Mayor Kollek had done a remark–
able job of restoring thi arca. There
were about four synagogues, each

a different room in the same build–

and beautiful inside.
I was really impressed with all the
plans Mayor Kollek told us he has
in mind for renewine. and
rebeautifying the city of
Jeru~alem.

30 years - gone through the job of
building Ambassador Collcge in
Pasadena (not to speak of s imil a r
jobs at the other two campuses).
The college was built out of what -

Mayor Kollek later took the

to be there
on July 2 for the official ground–

forced down a t Bangor. Maine. after
crossing the United States from
southwest to northeast because of a
cracked window in the cockpit. We
were forced to re turn to Pasadena -
flying at low alt itudc. So the mayor
conducted that ceremony alone.
When we reached the park area. 1
saw a large sign posted, in both He–

Sabbath afternoon we had a Bible

find a brief out line of that study
