WORK
Synanon is no welfare state. Work in Synanon Industries alone
provides $3 million in funds to support the ex-add1ct's spartan.
but sufficient, lifestyle. The work varíes from self-supportmg
Synanon industries (mamly the selling of specialty advert1s1ng)
or Synanon-run gas stations, to manual labor for newer members
1n Synanon's main buildings. In return for their work. ex-addicts
receíve all basic necessities, such as clothes, meals, rooms,
medical and dental care, and books.
