1956 -
Spanish Department was begun 1n Pasadena under the direction of
Ben1am1n L. Rea
1958 -
First literature published 1n Spanish.
"El Mundo de Manana" (The World Tomorrow) program began with
Bentam1n Rea as broadcaster.
1959 -
Generosa Lopez de Rios was the first Spanish-speaking person to be
baptized outside the U.S. She was living 1n Montevideo. Uruguay, at the
time and was baptized by Or. Rea. She is still a faithful mernbe< now
living in La Coruoia, Spain
1960 -
Spanosh Department was transferred to England, where it remaineduntil
Dr. Rea·s death 1n 1965
1965 -
Spanish Department was transferred to Big Sandy under the direction of
Charles V Dorothy
1967 -
Pablo Gonzalez from Puerto Rico became the broadcaster tor "El
Mundo da Mai\ana."
An ofllce was opened in Mexteo City and a local church was raised up
- the first in a Spanish-speaking country.
1968 - La Pura VtNdlld (ThePfalfl Truth)began in the Spanish language with tha
February issue.
Advarhsing began in Reader's Digest and continued until early 1970.
Thie campaign brOUQht 1n over 80.000 ,_ subscnbe<s - we still
reca,ve a few coupons each yaar from that very 9'1Ccesstul effort.
1969 -
Robert Florea, Sr. was sent to Santiaoo. Chile. to raise up the first
church 1n South America.
The Feast of Tabe<naclea was observed in Chile - the first time in a
Spantsh-speaking country
1971 -
Rober1 Flores. Sr was transferred to Bahia Blanca. Argentina. to raise
up the first church 1n that country
1972 -
Spanish Department was transte<red to Pasadena.
1973 -
Walter Dickinson became director of the Spanish Department.
1975 -
A Spanish-speaking church was raised up in Pasadena. pastored by
Rober1 Flores, Sr. - the first Spanish-speaking church 1n the U.S
1978 -
El Comumcado (The Spanish eQUivalent of the GoodNews and The
WorldwideNews) began with the June issue.
Herbert Cisne<os was ordained a Local Elder and a church was begun in
San Salvador. El Salvador - the first 1n Central America.
The Spanosh newsstand program began in the United States and Puerto
Rico.
1978 -
Wilfredo Saenz was ordained a Local Elder and a church was raised up
in Lima, Peru. Two outlying 8'ble s1udies were also begun ,n Huaraz and
Piura. Peru.
Pablo Gonzalez was transferred to Bogota, Colombia. where a church
was begun.
The cardholder program. whteh has had excellent results. was begun
1979 -
Leon Walker became director of the Spanish Department.
1981 -
In January. aff ministers from the Span1sh-speak1ng areas of the Work
were brought in for the seventh seSSIOII of the Ministerial Refreshing
Program This was the first time aN had been together in one place.
Septembermarked the 25th anniversary of thebeginning of the Spanish
Department.
