r ies to exist? But God plainly
promised He would establish that
throne
in Solomon:
'And 1 will
stablish the throne of
his
[Solo–
mon's] kingdom FOR EVER.' He was
not speaking of establishi ng it
many centuries later in Christ- at
H is second coming. T he 'he'
referred to is Solomon-not Christ,
for God said: ' If he commit iniqui–
ty,
1
wi ll chasten him'
(11
Samuel
7:14).
"But now
l
give you
a
scripture
that ends all speculation as to
when
th is throne was established:
' Hear me, thou J eroboam, and a ll
Israel: ought ye not to KNOW that
the Eterna! God of Israel
GA
vE
the kingdom over Israel to David
FOR EVER, even to him and to
his
sons
by a covenan t of salt?'
(11
C hronicles 13:4-5.) The mar–
gin says 'PERPETUAL covenant.'
This shows the establishing of the
throne was then
in the past!
God
gave, d id give, this kingdom to
David and his
sons-not
his
Son,
Christ, but his sons, plu ra l-con–
tinuously forever.

have made a covenant with
my chosen,
1
have sworn unto
David my servant, T hy seed (dy–
nasty- Moffatt] wi ll
1
establish
for ever, and bui ld up
thy throne
to al/ generations'
(Psalm 89:3-4).
Note it! T his throne, established
forever, was built up to
al/ gener–
ations.
God
did
establish that
throne, beginning with David and
Solomon. We have a record of it
for a number of generat ions- as
far as King Zedekiah, 585
a.c.
"It
was established to
al/
gen–
erations, conti nuously, perpet–
ually, FOREVER! T hat term 'all
generations' certainl y must in–
elude those generat ions from Zed–
ekiah to the bi r th of Christ. Who
occupied that throne during those
generations?
"Christ is not sitting on that
throne now, bu t on the throne of
Almighty God in heaven (Revela–
tion 3:2 1).
"So what about
this present gen–
eration?
Where is there a descen-
44
dant of David today sitting in an
unbroken line of kings on the
throne of David, ruling over
chil–
dren of Israel?
"Can one wonder that men like
Thomas Paine and Robert l ngersoll
lost fait h in the Bible? They saw
these unconditional promises, but
they could not see how they had
been kept. Yet, if we have patience,
we shall see!
"But to continue, in the 89th
Psalm, with the 28th verse: 'My
merey wi ll
1
keep for him for ever–
more, and my covenant shall stand
fast with him. His seed [dynasty–
Moffatt] also will
1
make to endure
for ever, and
his throne as the days
of heaven.'
"Consíder a moment the mean–
ing of the word 'seed' in this sense.
Moffatt's translation in modero
Eng lish properly translates it 'dy–
nasty.' The Revised Standard Ver–
sion translates it ' h is [David's]
/ine'-that is, continuous line or
succession of sons, generation after
generation. This 'seed' is not the
general population of the children
of I srael. This is speaking of
David 's seed, or David's sons. His
sons were to be
kings.
David was of
the tribe of Judah, possessor of the
sceptre, not the birthright, promise.
His 'seed,' therefore, was the
king–
ly
Jine. So, literally, it means his
dynasty,
bis
fine
of successive
sons.
"Now w hi le his throne is
enduring through all generations,
as the days of heaven, consider the
next verse: ' If his children forsake
my law, and walk not in my judg–
ments; if they break my statutes,
and keep not my commandments;
then will
1
visi t their t ransgression
with the rod , and their iniquity
with stripes. Nevertheless my lov–
ingkindness will
1
not utterly take
from him, nor suffer my faithful–
ness to fail.
My covenant wi/1 1
not break,
nor alter the th ing that
is gone ou t of my lips. Once have
1
sworn by my holiness that
1
wi ll
not líe unto David. H1s SEED [dy–
nasty] shall endure FOR EVER, and
his throne as the sun
before me.
It
shall be establ ished for ever as
the moon, and as a faithfu l wit–
ness in heaven' (Psalm 89:30-
37).
"This is speaking of those gener–
at ions when his children may dis-
obey and forsake God's law. Sorne
today are excusing their inability to
Jocate this throne by saying the
covena n t was
conditiona/- t hat
because the children of Israel d is–
obeyed God , t he covenant was
broken. But what does the Almigh–
ty say?
1
f the chi ld ren d isobey and
transgress, they shall be
punished
for their transgression-but
not
by
the breaking of God's uncondition–
al covenant with David!
"Sorne say Christ took over the
throne. But He d idn't. Instead H e
was crucified , resurrected, and
ascended to heaven. He
sha/1
come,
and soon now, to sit upon that
throne as the King of kings and
Lord of lords. But how could Jesus
Christ, when He retu rns again to
ear th, take over and sit upon a
t h rone that long ago ceased to
exist?
Will Chris t Come to a
Nonex i stent Throne?
" If the throne of David ceased with
Zedekiah, then it does not exist
today. And if it does not exist,
how
sha/1 Christ sit upon a nonexistent
throne?
(See Luke 1:3 1-32.) And,
since it was to continue th rough
al/
generations, how about those many
generations between Zedekiah and
the birth of J esus?
"The very important
fact
that
the glorified King of kings is com–
ing to sit on an
existing throne
is
fu r ther affirmed by the prophet
Jeremiah. In the 33rd chapter is a
prophecy of events to occur at the
time of Christ's coming in supreme
power and glory! At . the time of
writing this prophecy, the prophet
was imprisoned in J erusalem. The
armies from Babylon were taking
the Jews captive. God said to Jere–
miah, ' 1 will ... shew thee great
and mighty th ings, which thou
knowest not. ... concerning the
houses of this city, and concerning
the houses of the kings of Judah,
which are thrown down ...' (verses
3-4).
" J eremiah knew· t he king's
houses in Jerusalem were being
destroyed- the throne of David
removed
f rom J erusalem. He was,
as will be shown later, to be God ' s
agent in root ing out that throne
from J e rusalem. God was now
revealing to him a reassuring fact.
The throne of David would, in
