AMBASSADOR

life-and-death crisis in the West–
ern world . Studen t revolt has
been inflamed into r ioting a nd
viole nce. Prominen t ed ucators
recognize with a la rm the da nger–
ous drift in to materialism and
collectivism. At the same time
they confess thei r helplessness to
cha nge the situation. Major col–
leges and large universi t ies find
themselves in· the clutch of an
established system which no one
chancellor, president, or chair–
man can al ter.
Something is cr imina lly wrong
in education today!
Ambassador College carne on
the world scene free from the
shackJes of tradit ion. Ambassa–
dor has da red to recapture the
true
values-to blaze new trails,
while retaining all that is sound
and what has be.en proved good in
educational experience.
Mora l bars have toppled. Uni–
ve rs ity campu s st ude n ts say
blunt ly that with the wani ng of
church and parental infl uence,
"we decide for ourselves on codes
of morality." A newspaper head–
line says: "Students in Search of
a New Morality."
Stuffi ng minds with crass ma–
terial ism, whi le moral, spi ritual,
and emotional developmen t is
neglected, produces lop-sided,
u nba lanced education a nd is
crimina lly dangerous.
The fi rst law of success in life is
the choosing of t he r íght goal as
the aim of lífe. Where there is no
sense of the t rue values, there can
be no meaníng to life, no right
purpose, no aiming at the
right
goal. T here can be no well-bal–
a nced, broadening, and worth–
while education where the true
values have become obscured from
view, wherecha racter building is a
lost and d iscarded a r t, and minds
are filled with dead knowledge a nd
false materia lism.
This tragic state of affairs in
today's higher education is the
natural result of the mass-pro–
duction machine age with its
demands for highly special ized
technological, scientific a nd pro-
36
fessional training a long purely
materialistic lines. Emphasis is
upon specialized t raining in pre–
ferred fie lds for financia! re–
wards. T he development of the
ma n h imse l f- his c haracter,
right sense of values, knowledge
of the real purpose of life, a nd the
laws t ha t gover n hap piness,
peace, and abundant well-be–
ing- is neglected. Modero edu–
ca t ion commi ts the c r ime of
developing the machine wh ile
fa iling to develop the man.
Where is this leading?
Eminent scientists warn public–
ly that they a re frankly frightened
by this trend which now threatens
to annihilate human life from this
planet! This world's education is
failing to instill a knowledge of
t rue values a nd a God-fearing
sense of responsibility for the
direction of these new and awe–
some forces into peaceful and pro–
ductive c hannels. The question
now is whether this new technolo–
gy is creating the Frankenstein
monster that shall destroy its pro–
ducers a nd a ll huma nity!
At Ambassador College st u–
dents find the true values. T hey
learn the real pu rpose of human
life. Li fe takes on true meaning.
Emphasis is upon character
bu i lding. Students learn not
merely how to earn a living, but
how to live! Students acquire a
well-rounded, broadeni ng, bal–
a nced education. There ís not
only mind development, but a lso
that of personality, true culture,
poise and emotional maturity.
To that end, the small student
body on campus and the small
stude~t-facu l ty
rat io provide a
d istinct advantage. On campus
the relationship between student
and faculty is as happy and help–
ful as it is unusual. The smaller
college, adequately staffed and
outstand ingly equipped fo r its
needs, with high character a nd
cu ltu ra l surrou ndings, offer s
greater oppor tunity for self-ex–
pression and activity in the area
of the student's talents.
It
can
g ive more personal attention to
the individual student' s problems.
lt
produces an altogether differ–
ent and more desirable campus
a tmosphere.
T he Ambassador policy is
based upon the recognition that
true education is not of the intel–
lect alone bu t of the whole per–
sonality- not a lone of technolo–
gies, sciences a nd arts, bu t an
understanding of the purposc of
life, a knowledge of the spiritual
laws which govern our lives, our
God- relationship and human re–
lationships; not a memorizing of
knowledge a lone but a thorough
training in self-discipl ine, self–
expression, cultural a nd charac–
ter development; not book learn–
ing only, bu t broadening travel
a nd experience; not only hearing
and learning, but doing.
In other words, the cu r r icula
are plan ned to give students a
broad, cul tural background- a
foundation for the art of living
happily, usefu ll y, successfully,
abundantly. Hence the emphasis
upon character building and spir–
it ua l development is aptly stated
in the Ambassador motto: "Re–
capture True Values."
