What Our Readers Say
Child Care
I
always find great satisfaction
when
1
read articles in
Plain
Truth
about child care. You
seem to make such a difficult
subject, and a very present
important subject, so easy and
straight-forward. As can be
seen in the national prcss two
Scottish mothers have ap–
proached the Common Market
over the use of the Scottish
tawse for various misdemea–
nours occurring during school
hours. When
1
was al school the
tawse was used almosl every
day on sorne hapless youth for
various lapses; latcness, bad
work, impertincnce, rudeness.
But we all expected it, and were
none the worse for it after all.
lt
is just part of living in Scotland
and Scottish educational
ideals.

The article "The Modero Sew–
er System" makes one think it
incredible that human beings
who are intelligent enough for
space travel solve their prob–
lems of personal hygiene by
putting their body wastes into
the public drinking water and
t hen spend billions in futile
efforts to restare the water to
its original condition. No econ–
omy drive there apparently.
Sounds a bit like banging one's
head on a wall to get rid of a
headache.

lt
is pertinent for me at this
point in time to express in an
overwbelming tone my appre–
ciation for your highly illumi–
nating and fascinating maga–
zine,
The Plain Truth.
There is
no gainsaying the fact that
The
38
Plain Truth
magazine is a Hv–
ing magazine.
It
broadens and
enlightens the minds of men
who are very anxious to know
why they are here and where
they are going from here.

Congratulations to Roderick C.

balaneed artiele about mar–
riage, " How Husbands Should
Lead the Family."
lt
inspired
me so much that 1 read it to our
school Scripture Union and
sorne of students.
Suicide

You write that
1,000
people
commit suicide every day
worldwide. Or in a legalistic
sense, self-murder. 1 am a train
driver and it is a fact that we do
from time to time have the
problem to deal with. A short
time past a lady sat on my run–
ning line and waited for me to
pass over her with my
720
tons
express train.

1 am a housewife. 1 had never
thought there was any other
woman in the world who loved
being a housewife as much as
1
do until
1
read about one in
your magazine. With all the
"unfulfilled" women cluttering
up our good earth
1
feel good!
Of course
The Plain Truth
has
helped to make me a happy per–
son and all your interesting let–
lers inspire me to do more.

Garbage
1
would like to comment on a
statement about returnable bot–
tles in the article, "What Your
Garbage Reveals About You!"
Here in Connecticut the stale
legislation has started to take
steps on this problem. A few
years ago lhe so-called "Bottle
Bill" was passed (amid much
eontroversy). Now lhere are
deposits on almost all beverage
containers, and people take
advantage of the returnables.
There is also a wonderful side
effect to this law--our streets
and parks are now much clean–
er because people pick up the
bottles and caos!
Laws such as Connecticut's
have also beco passed in Ver–
mont and Maine, and
1
think
tñat other states are beginning
to realize the good sense lhat
recycling makes.
