Into the Future
by
Keith W. Stump
How has this magazine- and no other–
been able to forecast many of
the major developments of our time-years in advance?
CI ENCE FICTION
story
written many years ago
put forward an intrigu–
ing and thought-provoking
idea.
The story told of an ingenious
inventor who employed E in–
stein's theories of space and time
to develop a printing press that
published
tomorrow's
newspa–
per!
The newspaper that carne off his
press repor ted the news that would
happen in the
next
24 hours, rather
than what had occurred during the
past
24 hours. The headlines told of
dramatic events-internationaJ con–
frontations, accidents, disasters,
deaths-that invariably carne to pass
exactly as prereported by his unique
paper.
Each day, the concerned inven–
tor would frantically attempt to
warn those involved in tomorrow's
news of impending calamities-but
to no avail. All simply dismissed
him as an eccentric. He finally gave
up and destroyed the press to pre–
serve his peace of mind.
An impossible scenario?
Well consider this.
Pictures of Things to Come
No such device, of course, has ever
26
been invented. But this does not
mean we are left without a source
for peering into the future.
That source?
Bible prophecy!
About one third of the Bible is
prophecy. Our word
prophecy
comes from the Greek language
and literaJly means "to speak be–
forehand."
The ancient prophets of the
Bible wrote of trends and events
that, in the main, never carne to
pass in their own days. Rather,
their prophecies were often sealed
from human understanding until
our day-these last days of present
human civilization!
Actually, sorne
90 percent
of all
Bible prophecy is for
our day,
the '
latter 20th century. The messages
of these prophecies are vivid pic–
tures of things to come, events
just
ahead!
Yet this world- Iargely illiterate
biblically-remains in ignorance of
the important messages o f the
prophets.
That is where
The Plain Truth
magazine comes in.
Our Commission
For 48 years this month,
The Plain
Truth
has been aler ting its readers
to major trends and events in
advance-based on the sure word
of Bible prophecy. I ts job has been
not only to report what is happen–
ing, but t'o show the significance of
current events in the light of Bible
prophecy- and to show
where they
are all headed!
One of the commissions of this
magazine is to help readers
watch
world events (Luke 21 :36) and to
explain
developments in the light
of these revealed prophecies. Our
role is one of a
watchman,
warning
of potential perils ahead (Ezek.
33).
Since 1934, the year of its incep–
tion,
The Plain Tr.uth,
under the
editorship of Herbert W. Arm–
strong, has announced in advance
many of the major developments of
our time-years in advance of their
actual fulfillment. Our guide has
been the pages of Bible prophecy.
This accounts for
The Plain
Truth's
unique perspective. There
is no other magazine like it any–
where in the world!
The large, mass-circulation mag–
azines and newspapers of this world
are unaware of the great
purpose
being worked out here below. They
do not understand the revealed
forecasts of Bible prophecy. They
must rely solely on the observations
of thei r correspondents, based on
perceived trends that are at times
misleading. They report the news
