Cholla cactus spines dis–
courage would-be p redators from en–
tering the nest of a cactus wren and
killing the young. The wary little
mother wren easily avoids these spines
as she makes numerous trips bringing
insects to fill gaping and hungry mouths
of young birds. A PLAIN TRUTH Photo–
graphic Research Team observed and
filmed this phenomenon in California's
Joshua Tree National Monument.
