Panama, though it is not Commu–
nist, nevertheless cooperated hand in
glove with Cuba in the Nicaraguan
revolution. Undoubtedly the Com–
munist tide will eventually sweep
over Panama itself. What then?
"The Caribbean Gulf area is well
on the way to becoming a Red
Lake," Dr. DonaId M. Dozer told
The Plain Truth
in 1977. "Upon the
defense of the Gana! Zone by the
United States depends the fate of the
Canal. Upon the fate of the Canal
depend the safety of world sea Ianes
and the fate of the entire Caribbean
Gulf area . On these factors depend
the survival of the United States as a
free and independent nation and the
safety and welfare of the American
continents."
Long-time readers of
The P/ain
Truth
who have also read Mr. Arm–
strong's recent series "The United
States and Britain in Prophecy"
know that the United States, Britain,
and the English-speaking Common–
wealth nations have been the end–
time recipients of the birthright
promise of national greatness con–
ferred by Almighty God upon the
patriarch Abraham.
In detailing elements of this prom–
ise, God told Abraham: "That in
blessing 1 will bless thee, and in mul–
tiplying
I
will multiply thy seed as
the stars of the heaven, and as the
sand which is upon the sea shore; and
thy seed shall possess the gate of his
enemies" (Genesis 22:17). The Feo–
ton translation phrases it in this man–
ner: " ... And your race shall possess
the gates (plural] of its enemies."
The "gates" of enemy nat ions are
the strategic Iand and sea gates of
entrance to or exit from these na–
tions. In their rise to world power,
Britain and America carne into pos–
session of nearly every
majo-~:
Iand
and sea gate in the world. But today,
most of them, such as the Suez Can–
al , Aden and Singapore, have been
Iost as Britain's sun has set and that
nation has shriveled back to " little
England."
America 's Panama Canal is next
on the list to go.

just the beginning of major woes for
the United States in its own "back–
yard."
In an article in
El Mercurio,
Chile's most influential newspaper,
Guillermo Martinez wrote: "The
United States will soon be sur–
rounded by visible and active ene–
mies, with the one exception of Cana–
da."
And one wonders about the Iast part
ofthat prediction as well . Canada itself
may never
be
an enemy, but its territo–
rial integrity is endangered by the
threatened secession of the French–
speaking provinceofQuebec. A referen–
dum to that effect will be held in Quebec
in thespringof 1980.
Western intelligence experts are
deeply concerned over the política!
radicalization of the
provi~ce
should
the Quebec nationalist independence
drive be successful. They fear that
joint North American (Canadian–
U.S.) military defense may be grave!y
impaired. (For the likely impact of an
independent Quebecon thesecurity of
the United States, refer to the May
1978 issue of

God is taking away, one by one,
the ramparts and bulwarks that have

throughout its history!
Time of Punishment Ahead
What does God say will happen to
the United States-part of the
"anointed" covenant people of mod–
ern-day I srael-in the coming
months and years?
Notice Psalms 89, verses 38
through 43: "But now thou hast cast
off and rejected, thou art full of
wrath against thy anointed. Thou
hast renounced the covenant with thy
servant; thou hast defiled his crown
in the dust.
Thou hast breached al/
his walls;
thou hast laid his strong–
holds in ruins. All that pass by des–
poi! him;
he has become the scorn of
his neighbors.
Thou hast exalted the
right hand of his foes;
thou hast
made al/ his enemies rejoice.
Yea,
thou hast turned back the edge of his
sword, and
thou hast not made hím
stand
in
battle."
The rest of this psalm reveals that
God "will not hide himself forever,"
that after a time of national punish–
ment and captivity He will turn
again to deliver His people. That is
the good news over and beyond the
bad.
