threatening to end in ecological disaster;
epidemic crime; a new generation losing
its way; mounting violeoce and riots;
international economic woes; a moral
tobogganslide; natural disasters of im–
mense proportions.
The true magnitude aod significance
of one trend or event was quickly
buried in the wake of the next crisis
to jolt thc world. Now, at the beginning
of a new year, we need to review thc
