When Jesus trekked the rugged hills and valleys of ancient Gali/ee, He
selected disciples from the mainstream of life in His day. One was a tax collector.
Severa/ were commercial fishermen. Some possibly were farmers, skil/ed
artisans, or maybe sma/1 businessmen. They were men who never dreamed of
becoming ministers. Yet Christ cal/ed and used these men from diverse
occupations to build His Church andfeed Hisftock. In the 1900years that
have transpired since Jesus first selectedJohn, Matthew, Peter and the others, God
continues to choose his servants from a wi.de spectrum of backgrounds.
