How sad it is that so many mis–
interpret what J ohn said: ' 'For the
law was given by Moses. but grace
and truth carne by J esus Christ' '
(John
1: 17).
Although the law carne
through Moses and grace and truth

Jesus Chri st. Moses
was most familiar with not only
God's law but also His infinite
merey and grace-and thal's lhe
truth!

God's Name
Blessed be the name of the Lord .
But wha t
is
His name? Moses kept
ask ing Him lhe same question. And
God gave Hi s friend Moses the
an–
swer:
"And the Lord [
YH VH]
de–
scend ed in the cloud. a nd stood with
him [Moses] there. a nd
proclaimed
the name of 1he Lord.
And lh e Lord
passed by before him. and pro–
claimed, The Lord. The Lo rd God,
merciful and gracious. longsuffering.
and abundan! in goodness and lruth.
keeping merey for thousands
[of gen–
e ra lio n s].
forgiving iniquity and
transgression and sin,
a nd that will
by no means clear th e gui lty: vis–
iting the iniquity ofthe fathers upon
the children, and upon the chil–
dren's children, unto the third and
to the fourth generation" (Ex. 34:5-7).
And
that
is the "name of the
Lord" Moses learned from his
friend Goo!
That wa"s al mos t more th an
Moses could end ure. What a mar–
velous plan! What all-encompassing
mercy-beyond the wi ldest hopes of
Moses. but very much in li ne wi th
Moses' hope!
Wha t God told Moses was thal
every human being would at one
time have his opportunity for salva–
tion. But the God of grace reserves
the judgment of
when
and
whom
to
Himsetr. Grace was not to be ad–
ministered thro ug h Moses. but
through God.
Trust God- Moses did!
Why Salvation?
But wha t about
whr?
Why would
anybody want to be saved? Saved
from wha t fo r wha t? Saved from
Egypt? F rom sin? From death? But
for wha1?
Why
did
God make us the way
He did? Mortal. subject to si n. ca–
pable of inflicting so much misery
on our own kind for so many thou–
sands of years. Why a re we he re?
Whv
were we
born~
What is it God
plans for
us~
Whal
purpose
is the re?
And once we a re "saved" whal will
we
be?
