Danie l was one of rour extraordi–
nary. in telligent and brillianl Jewish
lad in the Judean eaplivity. These
four men werc tationed in 1he pal–
ace of King ebuchadnczzar of the
Chaldean Empire. in tra ining for
specia l respon ibilitie. in thc Baby–
lonian government. Daniel was a
prophet who had been given special
unders tanding in visions and
dreams (Dan. 1: 17).
Nebuehadnczzar was the first real
world ruler. He had conquered a
vas l empire. including thc nation
Judah. This king had a dream so
impress ive it troubled him - moved
him to trcmendous concern. He de–
manded tha t his magicians. as trolo–
gers. and sorcerers tell him both
what
he had dreamed. and what it
mea nt. They eould not. They were
baflled. Thcn Daniel was brought
before the king.
