PASTOR GENERAL'S REPORT, JANUARY 4, 1985
HARARE, ZIMBABWE--ROBERT KLYNSMITH: Several have commented on the
quality of sermons being received from Pasadena. Brethren found
Mr. Armstrong's sermon on abortion deeply moving.
Dr. Zimmer
man's tape on marriage also proved to be very thought-provoking
and sobering. We were all thrilled to hear from Mr. Waterhouse
and appreciated his timely message about God's Kingdom.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA--JOHN WHITE: We are still experiencing a
good "new visit" trend and a subsequent number coming on to the
PM list. All this despite Christmas causing detours for PM ac
tivity.
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA--ANDRE VAN BELKUM: There continues to
be a close family atmosphere among members and a sense of urgency
regarding the times in which we are living. About 40 of our YOU
members were accepted to SEP and are thankful for the opportunity
to participate in such an outstanding program. 1985 should be a
fantastic year of growth!
From the Caribbean
HAMILTON, BERMUDA--CECIL PULLEY: We continue to receive a very
good response to the television program. Mr. Armstrong has been
covering very timely subjects and people are beginning to see
that what he says is the truth. We are currently receiving an
average of 15 calls per program.
BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS--ARNOLD HAMPTON: It is gratifying to see the
PM activity picking up since the Feast, even though we are not on
TV. Some have been following the Church for years and are sens
ing the urgency of the times. They have decided to act on what
they know.

UPDATE FROM MAIL PROCESSING
Donations From New Subscribers Highest Since 1979
While the overall response to the current semiannual letter is about aver
age, we're happy to report that the number and amount of donations from new
subscribers is the highest for any letter since 1979.
Donations from
primes (subscribers who have renewed at least once) are also high--the
second highest number since 1979.
We believe that the prayers of members have had a lot to do with this fine
response. Many subscribers who donate through the semiannual letter go on
to become co-workers. We would like to encourage the brethren to keep up
their prayers that God would add more co-workers, as Mr. Armstrong has re
quested.
Bounced Checks a Recurring Problem
Although most members are conscientious about their donations, bounced
checks continue to be a problem for the Mail Processing Center. For exam
ple, about 800 checks sent in over the past two months, totalling nearly
$100,000, have bounced! Not only was that amount of money unavailable for
