Many
have asked about the meaning of Matthew
10:28. This verse readS: "And fear not them which ld.ll
the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather
fear
him
wh:ich is able to destroy both soul and body
in
hell."
The
doctrine of the iaunortality or 1ndestructi–
bil1.ty of the soul is often based
on
this text, although
Jesus plainly says that we should fear God who 1.s able to

But, what is the soul
if
man can't k1.11 it?
The
word "soul
11
is used in numerous ways. It
is a translation of the Greek word psuche and
the
Hebrew
word nelheah, both of which mean, according to Strong's
Exhaust ve Concordance, a living, breathing creature,
an. animal 11.fe, appetite and similarly derived connota–
tions. sour-can NEVER mean an immortal part of
man
or
an~l
but always the living, breathing an1mal or man,
also the life
or
a breathing
be~ng
which is in the blood.
In
Leviticus 17:11 the word translated "life
11
oomes from.
the same Hebrew word for "soul" -and can be correctly
translated: for the soul of the flesh is in the blood.
Jesus gave His life '(translated from the same· Greek word
meardng soul}.. a:-railsom f or us (Mark 10:45)
by
pouring
out His eoul of life blood in payment for sin (lea. 53:12).

Remember, God can destroy the physical body and
the soul or life. Luke quotes Jesus as
