LEITERS TO THE EDITOR
Malta
John Halford's article in
lhe March issue was
well-prepared and. above all,
gave a true and precise piclure
of the past and present stale
of the island. In recent years
(especially since the 1981
elections). many foreign
correspondents attributed to
the island a much worse image
and
1
was quite happy that
The Plain Truth
made
amcnds. In a modern,
nuclear-bent age, the Mallese
are more than proud lo
amalgamale with other
nona1igned nations and shout
for peace ... tru1y a word
hardly spoken of nowadays.

read your arlicle on Malta
and found it very interesting.

had no idea Malta took part in

was a little
vague on where Malta was. l'd

must thank you for your
article on "Love, Marriage

found it both
interesting and informative.
Rona1d D. Kell y's sympathetic

would not
describe myse1f as particularly
religious, alt hough my main
interesl in 1ife is philosophical
and centers around lhe t rue
meaning of life and existence
(of which naturally religions
are an important aspect, but

do not seem to me lo provide
real answers any more than
science does). My attitude,
like many others, varíes
between agnosticism or
scepticism to sorne kind of
faith since there seems no
other answer.

" Dr. Habsburg Speaks Out"
In ' 'Dr. Habsburg Speaks
Out" he is reported to say:
"Armament is not the cause of
evil bul the consequence of
evil.
Armament is like the
fever to the disease."
lt
cou1d
be argued that Dr. Habsburg
misunderstands lhe role of
fever. Fever is a
healing
reaction of the body to a
particular condition. l l is clear
that armaments are rather like
the drug that suppresses the
healing reaction. Dr. Habsbu rg
is right when he says:
"Armament is the
consequence of evi1," bul he
seems not to understand that
fear is the evil! The only
remedy for fear is
LOVE.
This
love has obviously nothing lo
do with religion as the
situations in lranj l raq,
Lebanon, N. lreland,
Pakistan/ l ndia, and many
other places show! Let us pray
that historians, church leaders
and politicians grow up in
time to prevent a holocaust
and rather become instruments
of the peace that passes all
understanding.

The peace that passes al/

we are commissioned to watch

includes reporting and
analyzing the activities of
leading nations and importan!

Above Politics
At a glance, one would
initially think that
The Plain
Trurh
tends to be politically
oriented. 1 have found that it
is continuously revealing the
relationship of the global
crises with biblical
interpretations. This has
accelerated my inte.rest in
reading this great publication
for the liberal man.

We do indeed wait earnestly
for the return of Jesus Christ,
but
r
am convinced you are
wrong in teaching that He will
return literally in the ftesh. He
"gave His flesh for the life of
the world" and is now a great
spirit being with His Father. He
also said that His kingdom was
not of this world and
1
feel sure
this means that it is a spiritual
kingdom, but which will
certainly have earthly
representatives in the
resurrected prophets of old. l f
Jesus were to return to earth in
the flesh, He would be just as
much ignored and persecuted as
He was at His first advent.

Why the Dutch Beat Back
the Sea
We found the article "Why
the Dutch Beat Back the Sea"
in the January 1984 issue very
interesting and helpful in
understanding the prophecy
concerning them. We would
like to see other articles
concerning the rest of the
tribes of Israel along these
lines.
