stated , " If you want to enter into life, keep
the commandments" (Matt. 19:17, RAV) .

[including nuclear war] shall not come near
you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and
see the reward of the wicked" (Ps. 9 1:5-8,
RAV) .
Wh y? "Because you have mad e the
Lord ... your habitation" (verse 9).
It 's that simple. The Ten Commandments
explain
why
humanity is in such an unsolvable
mess.
Bul, sorne may say, what if

obey these
commandments and the people living in the
nation next to us don' t ? What's to stop
them?
Simply, God makes promises in the Bible
to t hose who obey. What kind of hope can a
person who obeys God have?
Even if there be nuclear war, even if
humanily as a whole doesn't embrace the
way, there remain promises for t he children
of the obedient. " 'There
is
bope in your
future,' says the Lord, 'That your children
shall come back to their own border,' " that
is, their own bornes, their own land (Jer.
31:17,
RAV).

Now what is one of God's many promises
to those wbo obey? " You sball not be afraid
of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that

in darkness, nor of the
destruction
that lays

You can chase the fear of nuclear extinc–

physically large enough to be BORN
as a human.
Thi s new convert has now
REPENTED, in his mind, from the
depths of bis heart. HE MEANS IT,
too! In all sincerity, in his mind and
heart he has
turned around to go
the other way-to
live a different
life. He is now a CHRISTIAN-he
has received God's Holy Spirit. H e
reaJiy
wants
todo what is right- to
obey God- to live Goo's
w
AY.
YET HE FINOS HE DOES NOT
DO
THIS PERFECTLY! Many, at this
stage, become discouraged. Sorne
give up even trying to live a Chris–
tian life. And WHY?
Because of the
fa/se notion that a Christian is one
who becomes
PERFECT
at one fe/1
swoop--or
that one cannot become
a Christian
until
he has broken all
wrong habits, and
made himse/f
righteous.
lt's vital lO UNDERSTAND how
true Christianity REALLY WORKS!
The newly begotten Christian
must grow up, spiritually. What
would you think of a human baby,
September 1983
who became 6 feet lall
al/ at once,
without
growing
up? The growing
up process requires TIME. There is
an instant
when a person receives
the impregnating Holy Spirit of
God-when he first becomes a
C hristian. Bu t he is only a spiritual
infant.
He must
grow up
spi ritu–
ally.
The newly converted person,
in
his mind and heart,
sincerely has
ABOUT-FACEO! He has actually
gai ne d contact with Goo a nd
received God's Ho ly Spirit. God 's
own divine NATURE has now been
conceived within him. BuT THAT'S
ALL. l t is
mere/y conceived- not
yet full grown! And his HUMAN
NATURE is
sti/1 there.
It
has not
been killed or removed!
God's PURPOSE in having created
humanity- in having caused
YOUto
be born- is to reproduce himself.
And Goo, above all things,
is
PER–
FECT, RIGHTEOUS
CHARACTER!
God is able to create character with–
in us- but it must bé done as a result
of our independent free choice. We,
as individual separate entities, have
our part in the process.
Wbat
is
perfect character?
It
is

God's CHARACTER travels in the
direction of bis law- t be way of
LOVE. Jt

an Outgoing CONCERN
for others. Goo has that character!
He has an outgoing
concern
for you
and for me. He GAvE bis only

for us. He showers on us every

we repent and turn
from
the WRONG way of THIS
WORLD, begin to

it and turn
TO him through faith in Jesus
Christ as personal Savior!
God's divine nature is the nature
of love-of giving, serving, help–
ing-of outgoing concern.
It
is the
nature of humil ity.
