PASTOR’S COMMENTS 7-18-03

Dear Brethren,

While praying this morning and focusing a little on the day of preparation for the Sabbath, I began to think what it would be like if God had not in His infinite wisdom and love for His people not created the Sabbath.

Can we picture in our minds how lost all of us would be without it?  This is a little of what I began to think this morning.

We would be like wandering stars in space without purpose and objective and in time to come to lose our light and be consumed by the blackness of darkness forever!  Nothing to keep us reminded of the beginning of physical creation nor of the millennium soon to come.

And by so doing, we would lose touch with our Creator God and His plan for us.

Each Seventh Day, followed by six workdays of each and every week, brings us back to the realization of our Creator and His purpose for us as His people.

And to obey the command by God to assemble before Him in Congregational worship, as God makes possible in one way or another, is to keep us from focusing on the things of less importance and could possibly move us farther away from Him.

And that could be a very great danger for us Spiritually!

In addition to the Sabbath to be a reminder of creation, which has made possible you and me to have life, family and friends; and the soon-to-come millennium in which we hope to be graced by God to be born again into the Divine family of God, it is also designed to keep our minds on our relationship with God and filled with that expectation.

To make this plain to us, God led a major prophet to write of the problems of many and the blessings that will come by observing it in the manner in which God makes clear in the following Scriptures:

"If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My Holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the Holy Day of the LORD honorable; and shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your won pleasure, nor speaking your own words, then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.  The mouth of the LORD has spoken" (Isaiah 58:13-14).

And please remember at the same time, it is 'THE SIGN' that makes known we are the people of God!  Though I could turn to Exodus 31 to remind us of this Scripture, I prefer to use another Scripture that is in a prophetic Book for this time, today!, which mean you and me:

"I am the LORD your God: walk in My statutes, keep My statutes, keep My judgments, and do them.  Hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be A SIGN between Me and you, that you may known that I am the LORD your God" (Ezekiel 20:19-20).

All of us should be able to see without the knowledge and observance of God's Sabbath we would be worse off than the world.  Though they will experience horrible sufferings very soon, they will in time to come have the Spiritual darkness removed from their eyes and will then have the same opportunity that we now are having at this time.

We dare not fail!  There will be no further opportunity for us!  Today is our day of salvation and no other!

Though all of you know these things, I feel it well and good that we be reminded of the vital importance of the 7th day of each and every week which presents a weekly opportunity to come before our God with worship, praise, and thanksgiving for His Holy Sabbath.

May our good and wonderful God bless all of us and His people worldwide with a happy, joyous, and profitable Sabbath, and all the Sabbaths yet in front of us.
